The same as in normal HTML-Pages. Have a look to the documentation, there are nice examples.

Scriptlets, this is, things like this:

<div>
  <%
       ...
       some java code here
       ...
   %>
</div>

...are a JSP-only feature. There is no equivalence to scriptlets in thymeleaf, as thymeleaf will not allow you to use Java code directly inside templates.

You can extend thymeleaf by creating your own dialects and processors.
